Washington, DC – Vice President Kamala Harris today revealed her plan to tackle the high cost of child care for women and families during an interview with reporters from the National Association of Black Journalists.
Melissa Boteach, Vice President of Child Care and Income Security at the National Women’s Law Center Action Fund, released the following statement in response.
“Vice President Harris understands the profound impact that the child care crisis has on women, families, early educators, and the broader economy. Too often, women face the impossible choice between achieving their full economic potential and meeting child care responsibilities. The Vice President’s plan to cap child care costs at 7% of income for working families would be transformative, providing much-needed relief to those struggling with the soaring expenses of care.
“Importantly, Vice President Harris underscored that these care investments are an important complement to her historic plan to expand the Child Tax Credit, emphasizing that families need both the CTC and care infrastructure to lower the costs of living and contribute to our economy.
“While Donald Trump avoids addressing the child care crisis, Kamala Harris offers a clear, actionable plan that will empower families to afford care, create living-wage jobs for early educators, and foster the economic growth that small businesses across the country depend on.” To read the NWLC Action Fund’s voter guide on caregiving priorities, click here.
