The National Women’s Law Center Action Fund (“NWLC AF”) is committed to your privacy and has created this Privacy Policy to explain how it collects and uses personal information on web sites, including nwlcactionfund.org and act.nwlcactionfund.org, and other online services that link to this Privacy Policy, including Slack channels or social media pages (collectively, “Sites”). This Privacy Policy also describes how NWLC AF protects the privacy of the personal information that it collects and processes.

NWLC AF encourages you to read this Privacy Policy in order to understand how it may process your personal information. NWLC AF reserves the right at any time and without notice to change this Privacy Policy simply by posting such changes on its Sites. Any such change will be effective immediately upon posting.

Collection of Personal Information:

NWLC may collect information, including personal information, about you when you use the Sites or otherwise interact with us. This may include:

    When you fill in NWLC AF’s registration forms for its advocacy network or other forms to receive communications from us, such as your name, telephone number, email address, address, format preference (HTML vs. Text) for communications, and information about your interest in our work.
  • If you elect to use NWLC AF’s referral service for informing a friend about NWLC AF’s Sites, the friend’s name and email address.
  • When you to purchase NWLC AF materials or donate to NWLC AF, such as information about your transaction and payment method.
  • When you communicate with us, for example to respond to our emails or choose to share your story with us, such as your name, contact information, and any other information you provide when you correspond with us.
  • If you choose to use the Sites to communicate publicly with us or others, such as in our Slack channels or on social media pages, such as any information you communicate to us.
  • About your interactions with the Sites, such as information about your device, browser type, IP address, geolocation information, referring website from which you accessed the Sites, pages you viewed on the Sites, how long you spent on a page on the Sites, access times, and information about your use of and actions on our Sites.

Use and Disclosure of Personal Information:

NWLC AF uses the personal information it collects for the following purposes:

  • To fulfill your requests with respect to NWLC AF’s offerings. For example, to process your donation or provide you with information that you request.
  • To support the activities of NWLC AF. For example, to conduct research on issues we support, assess NWLC AF programs, or develop new initiatives.
  • To maintain and improve the Sites. For example, to help diagnose problems with its server, administer its Sites, analyze trends, track users’ movement, gather broad demographic information for aggregate use in order for NWLC AF to improve the site, and deliver customized, personalized content.
  • To contact you regarding NWLC AF, its efforts, and issues and activities of likely interest to you. For example, if you sign up for the advocacy network, you may receive communications and updates from us. See below for information on unsubscribing from our communications.
  • If you elect to use NWLC AF’s referral service for informing a friend about NWLC AF’s Sites, NWLC AF will automatically send the friend a one-time email inviting her or him to visit the Site(s). NWLC AF does not store this information beyond the time it takes to send this one-time email.
  • For legal reasons. We may use your personal information to comply with law or legal requests, such as a valid and legally enforceable warrant, subpoena, court order, law or regulation, or other judicial or administrative order.
  • To protect you, ourselves, and others. We may use your information if we reasonably believe it is necessary to enforce or investigate potential violations of applicable terms, agreements, or policies; to investigate and defend ourselves against legal threats or actions; to prevent imminent and serious bodily harm or death to a person; to protect our organization, employees, contractors, users, or the public; or to detect, prevent, or otherwise assess and address potential spam, malware, fraud, abuse, unlawful activity, and security or technical concerns.

NWLC AF generally does not share or sell its lists of contacts gathered online or lists of donors who have given online or offline with other organizations.
However, in certain circumstances, we may share your personal information with NWLC AF’s affiliated organization (the National Women’s Law Center), organizations with whom we engage for joint initiatives, and third-party vendors as described below. From time to time, NWLC AF may send you materials by U.S. Postal Service mail when it thinks they may be of interest you. However, if you do not wish to receive materials by U.S. mail, you can let NWLC AF know by emailing [email protected].

NWLC may also disclose the information it collects as described below:

  • With third parties that provide us with services. We may disclose your information on a confidential basis, for example, to vendors that process credit card transactions, fulfill merchandise requests, or facilitate fundraising or advertising campaigns.
  • With our partners, if you sign up for or are interested in an initiative we offer with partners. With your consent, we may disclose your information to other non-profits or entities if we jointly offer an event or initiative.
  • To comply with law or legal requests or to protect ourselves and others. We may disclose your information to third parties for the purposes described above, for example, to comply with a legal request for information, to defend ourselves in litigation, or to enforce our agreements with third parties.
  • We may also use or disclose your personal information for additional purposes with your express consent.

User-Generated Content:

You may choose to provide user-generated content on the Sites, for example, if you elect to use NWLC AF’s Site(s) to share a personal story and/or photos or use NWLC AF’s Slack channels to share an idea, ask a question, or communicate with others. If you do so, NWLC AF reserves the right to edit your content and post it on the Site(s) at its discretion. By submitting content to NWLC AF, you consent to its editing, posting and other use on behalf of NWLC AF’s goals and activities. You also agree to comply with NWLC AF’s Terms of Use. Please note that if you choose to post your user-generated content on the Sites, that content may be visible to others or publicly available. We do not have control over how publicly posted content may be used or shared by others. Please keep that in mind before you post any content on our Sites that you may want to keep private. If you decide to post any information that is open to the public, you acknowledge and fully and solely accept all harm and liability associated with this act.

Use of “Cookies”:

NWLC AF’s Sites may use cookies to enhance your experience while using its Sites. Cookies are pieces of information stored on your device that many web sites use to perform certain functions such as saving your passwords, remembering your personal preferences regarding your use of the particular web site, and to make sure you don’t see the same ad repeatedly.

Your browser may be set to accept cookies by default. However, if you would prefer not to receive cookies, you can alter the configuration of your browser to refuse cookies. If you choose to have your browser refuse cookies, it is possible that some areas of NWLC AF’s Sites will not function properly when you view them.

Third Party Information Collection:

Some content or applications on NWLC AF’s Sites may be provided by third parties, including advertising companies, ad networks and servers, analytics companies, and application providers. These third parties may use cookies, pixels, or other tracking technologies to collect information, potentially including personal information, about your online activities over time and across different websites when you use our Sites. Those third parties may provide NWLC AF with data collection, reporting, ad response measurement, or analytical information, and assist with delivery of relevant marketing messages and advertisements. The tracking technologies may also allow the third parties to deliver targeted advertisements on other web sites or on social media networks and gauge their effectiveness.

NWLC AF does not control these third-party technologies and their use is governed by the privacy policies of those third parties.

Security:

We take the security of your personal information seriously and use reasonable technical, administrative, and physical measures to protect it from loss, theft, alteration, or misuse. Unfortunately, however, no data transmission over the Internet is 100% secure. While NWLC AF strives to protect your information, it cannot ensure or warrant the security of such information.

Third Party Web Sites:

NWLC AF’s Sites contains links to third party web sites. Please note that when you click on one of these links, you are entering another web site for which NWLC AF has no responsibility. NWLC AF encourages you to read the privacy statements and terms of use on all such sites as their policies may be different from NWLC AF’s policies.

Changes to Privacy Policy:

NWLC AF reserves the right, at any time and without notice, to modify this policy by simply posting such changes on its Sites. Any modifications will be effective immediately upon posting. Unsubscribing or Contacting the Sites:

If you do not want to receive any emails from NWLC AF in the future, visit this page to unsubscribe. Note that your donation and/or activist records will remain in NWLC AF’s databases, but your log-in and email addresses will be deactivated.
