This year’s midterm elections are critical to the future of our democracy and to the rights of women and LGBTQ+ people. The harm that we’ve seen over the last two years to women, girls, families, and our democracy is part of a deliberate conservative strategy that will take generations to undo.
Indeed, more than half of Project 2025’s extreme agenda has been implemented; Trump’s handpicked Supreme Court justices have eroded fundamental civil rights and helped Trump consolidate his power; and far-right extremists—in and out of the corrupt Trump-Vance administration—continue to weaken core pillars of democracy and undermine women’s freedom. However, at the National Women’s Law Center Action Fund, we are refusing to let fear, hate, and extremism define our future.

PROTECTING DEMOCRACY AND WOMEN’S POLITICAL POWER
Gender equity is a foundational commitment for a healthy democracy, which is why it’s no surprise that Donald Trump, JD Vance, and Republicans in Congress have focused so much of their efforts attacking the rights of women.
By weakening women’s political power and attacking civil rights, abortion rights, diversity efforts, and gender affirming care, conservative extremists are waging a whole-of-government assault on our democracy, as they seek to avoid accountability and consolidate their power. The goal is to re-impose a vision of society where women and LGTBQ+ people are marginalized or erased, with women of color at particular risk.
As an organization committed to defending and expanding women’s political power, we are fighting back against attacks on our voting rights, protecting women of color leaders from politically motivated attacks, and exposing corruption in our courts and at the highest levels of government.
To ensure women and LGBTQ+ people of every race can fully participate in our democracy, we need leaders who will expand access to the ballot box, protect civil rights, uphold checks and balances, and ensure that everyone has a voice in shaping our future.
MAKING LIFE MORE AFFORDABLE FOR WOMEN AND FAMILIES
Trump and the Republican Party have repeatedly prioritized tax breaks for the billionaire class over the needs of women and families. Between unnecessary wars, needless tariffs, and historic cuts to basic need programs to pay for tax cuts for the wealthy, Republicans in Washington are directly responsible for raising costs on everything from food to gas to health insurance.
These rising costs hurt all of us, but they fall especially hard on women, who continue to face gender wage gaps, caregiving burdens, and greater economic insecurity.
That’s why we’re fighting for candidates who will give women real choices and real economic freedom—including closing the gender wage gap, strengthening workplace protections, raising wages, creating a universal child care system, and guaranteeing paid leave.
MAKING REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH CARE ACCESSIBLE TO ALL
Since the U.S. Supreme Court’s Dobbs decision ripped away the constitutional right to abortion, extremists at every level of government have intensified their efforts to ban abortion nationwide. Donald Trump, JD Vance, and congressional Republicans are doubling down of their efforts to dismantle our reproductive freedoms, jeopardizing the health and safety of pregnant people across the country.
Like most Americans, we believe that everyone—regardless of income, race, or zip code—should be able to access reproductive health care without barriers or political interference. That is why we need leaders who will champion legislation that goes further than Roe and codifies the federal right and access to abortion care nationwide.
PROTECTING STUDENTS’ RIGHTS AND FREEDOMS
Trump and Republicans in Washington have made cruelty and division the defining features of their anti-education agenda. They are passing legislation and creating new federal guidance that promotes the bullying of trans students in schools, guts the Department of Education, and undermines the federal civil rights law Title IX, which is intended to protect against sex discrimination in education.
We believe that every student deserves to learn in an environment where they are safe, respected, and free to be themselves. That means electing leaders who will strengthen protections against sex discrimination in Title IX, defend trans students’ right to exist, and ensure that schools have the federal resources to protect students from harassment, bullying, and abuse.
