WASHINGTON, D.C. (May 13, 2025) – Today, 83 organizations, led by the National Women’s Law Center Action Fund, called on Congress to reject any attempt to defund Planned Parenthood through the federal budget reconciliation process.
Cutting federal funding for Planned Parenthood would have devastating consequences for millions of people who rely on its centers for “essential and affordable health care,” the organizations said in its letter to lawmakers.
Planned Parenthood provides preventive reproductive health services to over 2 million patients annually, including birth control, cancer screenings, STI testing and treatment, and wellness exams. The letter emphasizes that these services are especially critical for people facing systemic barriers to care, including those with low incomes, people of color, LGBTQI+ individuals, and residents in rural or medically underserved areas.
“It’s clear this effort isn’t about saving money, it’s a politically motivated campaign determined to gut access to reproductive health care,” said Jackii Wang, senior legislative analyst at the National Women’s Law Center Action Fund. “We can’t allow the health and lives of millions to be sacrificed to advance an extreme agenda.”
The letter notes that 64% of Planned Parenthood health centers are located in communities with few or no other health care options. Defunding the organization would effectively eliminate care for countless patients, particularly those who rely on Medicaid and other public health programs.
