Washington, DC – New polling released by the National Women’s Law Center (NWLC) Action Fund and Morning Consult finds that all voters, including childless women who own cats, overwhelmingly support robust policies for children and families. The polling also finds that a strong majority of voters, including parents, childless women, and childless cat owners, consider themselves to be happy.
Republican vice-presidential candidate JD Vance has taken fire for comments he made in 2021 chiding women who don’t have children. He told Fox News: “A bunch of childless cat ladies who are miserable at their own lives … want to make the rest of the country miserable, too” and “don’t really have a direct stake” in the prosperity of our country’s families.
“As a childless cat lady myself, I’m not surprised by these results, which directly refute JD Vance’s insulting claim that women without children don’t have a stake in the success of our nation’s children and families,” said Sandra Markowitz, Director of Research at the National Women’s Law Center Action Fund. “This polling further underscores the importance of electing leaders who will not only reject outdated stereotypes about women, but also fight to create a more just and inclusive country where all of us feel welcome and respected.”
See below for key takeaways from the NWLC Action Fund and Morning Consult poll:

- Voters, parents, and childless women all agree that supporting children and families should be a top priority for the government.
- A strong majority of voters overall consider themselves to happy, including parents, childless women, and childless cat owners.
