Washington, DC – Fatima Goss Graves, president of the National Women’s Law Center Action Fund, released the following statement after election results confirmed that Democrats won the U.S. House and Senate.
“Democrats who ran on a progressive agenda and put gender justice priorities front and center in their campaigns overwhelmingly won, and that’s no accident. Women went to the polls with the skyrocketing cost of child care, elder care, and disability care, health care premiums, gas, and grocery prices all weighing heavily on their minds. We already knew that affordability was the top issue in this election, but these rising costs don’t fall evenly: they crash down on women, who disproportionately shoulder the burden of keeping their families afloat. It’s clear that women’s voices powered Democrats’ victory.
“Voters want leaders who will bring bold solutions to tackle the big challenges that families face, while also holding the Trump-Vance administration and its harmful and extremist actions accountable. Members of Congress must deliver on the priorities voiced by their voters, from raising wages to child care solutions, to fighting for reproductive rights and access. In the first 100 days, we will be pushing this new Congress to turn promises into progress and deliver for the women who helped elect these members to office.”
