Washington, DC – In response to the Senate’s passage of Republicans’ reconciliation bill, Fatima Goss Graves, president of the National Women’s Law Center (NWLC) Action Fund, issued the following statement:
“In passing Donald Trump’s reconciliation bill, Senate Republicans have voted for a measure that would devastate our country’s health care system by making the largest ever cuts to Medicaid — all to help pay for more billionaire tax breaks. Among other things, this bill would also make drastic cuts to food assistance and other vital programs that women and families depend on.
“To every Senate Republican who chose billionaires over women, children, and families: shame on you. The American people will not forget who voted for the largest transfer of wealth from everyday families to the billionaire class — and neither will we. This bill now goes back to the House for consideration. We urge the House to prioritize women and families over billionaires and oppose this bill.”
NWLC Action Fund’s sister organization, NWLC, has also been leading efforts to draw attention to how this legislation would impact women, children, and families. See below for a list of NWLC’s resources on the reconciliation bill.
