WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, Alexis McGill Johnson, president and CEO of Planned Parenthood Action Fund, Fatima Goss Graves, president of National Women’s Law Center (NWLC) Action Fund, and Clara Spera, Justice Ginbsurg’s granddaughter and a reproductive rights attorney at NWLC Action Fund, issued the following statement in response to the newly formed superPAC “RBG PAC” with ties to an anti-abortion group:
“As leaders of national organizations that are committed to continuing the fight that Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg championed, we stand with the Ginsburg family in roundly condemning the craven weaponization of her legacy, as well as the mockery of her life’s work, by the creators of this superPAC that falsely seeks to tie Justice Ginsburg to Donald Trump and the anti-abortion movement.
“The late Justice Ginsburg remains an inspiration in more ways than we can count. Her life’s work shaped the rights that women have today and their role in society — from being able to sign a mortgage without a man’s permission to working in a job free from gender discrimination. Similarly, she firmly believed that access to reproductive health care, including abortion, was a key tenet of women’s freedom and ability to participate fully in society.”
“The ads, produced by this superPAC with ties to an anti-abortion group, suggest that Donald Trump supports reproductive rights – this is blatantly false. As president, Donald Trump remade the federal judiciary with anti-abortion judges. Since leaving office, he repeatedly takes credit for the overturning of Roe v. Wade and advocates for a national abortion ban.
With days left until Election Day, this superPAC has lied about Justice Ginsburg’s long record of upholding the right to reproductive health care — including abortion — to try to delude voters. As voters are already heading to the polls, we encourage them to vote for the only candidate in the race who will champion reproductive health and rights – Kamala Harris.”
