New Ad From NWLC Action Fund Highlights the Importance of Protecting Reproductive Freedom in This Election

Today, the National Women’s Law Center Action Fund began distributing a new ad created by our movement partners, titled Something’s Missing, to key voters in Michigan, Wisconsin, and Nevada, shedding light on the urgent need to vote for Kamala Harris and defeat Trump in order to protect and expand reproductive rights.

The ad tells a powerful story, portraying a father and son trying to manage daily life after the loss of their wife and mother – a stark representation of the real-world consequences that Trump and MAGA Republicans’ abortion bans impose on families across the United States.

Just last month, we learned about the tragic deaths of Amber Thurman and Candi Miller, two women in Georgia whose deaths were caused by the state’s abortion ban. These preventable tragedies did not occur in isolation; they are part of a reproductive health care crisis created by Donald Trump and Republicans.

For years, experts warned that overturning Roe v. Wade would lead to unnecessary and entirely preventable deaths. Instead of heeding these warnings, Donald Trump hand-selected the extreme Supreme Court justices who overturned Roe, while conservative state legislators have for years ignored medicine and science, and enacted abortion bans like the one that killed Amber and Candi in Georgia.

The ad comes at a critical time, just days before election day, urging voters to reject Trump Republicans’ attacks on reproductive rights when casting their ballots, and to support Kamala Harris, an unwavering champion for reproductive freedom. It underscores the harsh reality that in states with abortion bans, mothers face nearly three times the risk of death due to complications during pregnancy

Targeting high-potential voters particularly those ages 18 to 34 in Michigan, Wisconsin, and Nevada, the ad has been shown to resonate with many voters who do not consistently vote in every presidential election and may face more systemic barriers to political participation. Its aim is to connect with those voters, empowering them to make their voices heard and actively participate in the political process.
