Washington, DC – Fatima Goss Graves, president of the National Women’s Law Center Action Fund, released a statement Thursday following the conclusion of the first presidential debate on CNN:
“Tonight’s debate served as a grim reminder of the stakes of this election. On one side of the stage, you have President Biden, who defended abortion rights, discussed the urgent need to cut child care costs for families, and pledged to make billionaires pay their fair share. On the other side of the stage, convicted felon Donald Trump spewed one lie after another, refused to say whether he would accept the results of the election, and completely dodged a question about the high cost of child care.
“This debate further underscores why we cannot allow Donald Trump to retake the White House. Trump would enact a national abortion ban, undermine our democracy, slash taxes for the wealthiest, and make major cuts to critical programs that people rely on. We cannot let that happen. That is why we must come together this November to elect leaders, like President Biden, who will invest in families, protect our rights, and make our economy, communities, and democracy stronger.”
