Washington, DC – Fatima Goss Graves, President and CEO of the National Women’s Law Center Action Fund, released the following statement after House Republicans voted to elect Representative Mike Johnson (R-LA) as the new Speaker of the House.
“Representative Johnson has fought to ban abortion nationwide, rollback civil rights for LGBTQ individuals, and undermine our democracy. His election further underscores just how far to the right the Republican Conference in the House has shifted.
“While I am deeply concerned about Speaker Johnson’s record, I hope that he will work across the aisle to deliver on the priorities that are important to women and families, including providing $16 billion in emergency funding for child care and fully funding the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children.”
