The largest transfer of wealth from everyday people to billionaires happened last year when Republicans in Congress passed the Big, Ugly Bill at Donald Trump’s direction.
In a cruel twist of inequity, Republicans gave the billionaire class massive new hand-outs at the direct cost of women and families being kicked off food assistance and facing skyrocketing health care costs. ICE’s budget tripled under the Big, Ugly Bill.
Don’t be fooled—Trump’s Big, Ugly Bill is anything but “pro-worker” or “pro-family” especially when you consider Republicans in Congress made the following changes through the law:
- The largest cuts to Medicaid in history, expected to kick millions of people off their health coverage.
- The largest cuts to SNAP ever, making it harder for millions of women and mothers to feed their families, especially when the cost of groceries is surging.
- Defunded Planned Parenthood clinics that provide essential reproductive health care to millions of patients annually.
- Significant changes to student loan assistance for millions of borrowers who will now be forced to move to a more expensive repayment plan, increasing their student loans by thousands of dollars each year.
- Excluded millions of children from reaping the benefits of the Child Tax Credit because their parents lack a Social Security number.
- Diverted massive funding from basic needs programs to pay for more cruel and inhumane kidnappings off the street, ripping children from parents and leaving people in custody for long periods of time, where they are dying in unprecedented numbers.
