    1. In a 2020 debate against Joe Biden, Trump asked about minimum wage ““How are you helping your small businesses when you’re forcing wages? What’s going to happen and what’s been proven to happen is when you do that, these small businesses fire many of their employees.”
  2. Close the wage gap – opposes
    1. The Trump Administration ended an Obama-era rule requiring large companies to report how much they pay workers by race and gender, a policy that helps close the wage gap.
    2. An analysis showed that women in Donald Trump’s White House earned 69 cents for every $1 paid to male staffers.

  1. Enact the Biden administration’s $16 billion Emergency Child Care Funding Request – supports
    1. Harris supported Biden’s series of Executive Orders that:
      Cap child care copayments for working families at no more than 7% of a family’s income and encourage states to waive copayments for families at or below 150% of the federal poverty level;
    2. Improve financial stability for child care providers and incentivize their participation in the CCDBG program by ensuring they are paid on-time and based on program enrollment instead of attendance; and,
    3. Make it easier for families to access CCDBG by encouraging states to accept online applications for CCDBG enrollment and to make siblings of children who already receive the subsidy presumptively eligible for benefits.
  2. Establish a comprehensive system for aging and disability care – supports
    1. While campaigning in 2020, Harris supported a version of Medicare for All, Medicare for America, which would have funded long-term care at home for older adults and people with disabilities.
    2. The Democratic Platform says “We will protect the health and dignity of older adults and people with disabilities by improving long-term care and supporting family caregivers, and we will invest in care infrastructure by raising wages and the quality of care worker jobs.”

    1. Donald Trump’s child care plan fell short of what is needed to support parents and providers and only budgeted one billion dollars.

    1. He has said as recently as March 2024 that he is open to cuts to Medicare and Social Security.
    2. His 2017 plans during his Presidency would push millions with disabilities into institutions; make it harder for people with disabilities to work; harm students with disabilities; slash programs that provide basic living standards; and weaken disability rights and protections.

  1. Improve the federal Child and Dependent Care Tax Credit – supports
    1. The Biden-Harris administration’s American Rescue Plan expanded the child tax credit for tax year 2021. The maximum credit amount for that year  increased to $3,000 per qualifying child between ages 6 and 17 and $3,600 per qualifying child under age 6
    2. The Democratic Platform says “That’s why we’ll keep pushing to restore the expanded Child Tax Credit and Earned Income Tax Credit, which proved so effective at reducing poverty before Republicans let them expire.”
  2. Make the rich pay their fair share – supports
    1. The Democratic Platform says “A fair tax code is how we invest in the things that make our nation strong, like health care, education, a clean environment, and the national defense.”
    2. During her 2020 campaign, Harris proposed a slate of changes to tax policy to increase taxes on the rich and corporations and their assets.

  1. Improve the federal Child and Dependent Care Tax Credit – unclear
    1. The Tax Cuts and Jobs Act – passed during Trump’s Presidency – doubled the child tax credit to $2,000 per child and added another $500 credit for older children and other dependents
  2. Make the rich pay their fair share – opposes
    1. The Republican Platform says they will “make permanent the provisions of the Trump Tax Cuts and Jobs Act,” which was shown to benefit the rich more than other taxpayers.

Support full access to abortion care - supports

  1. Create new federal laws that ensure your right and access to abortion do not depend on where you live or how much money you make – supports
    1. The Democratic Platform says “Democrats are committed to restoring the reproductive rights Trump ripped away. With a Democratic Congress, we will pass national legislation to make Roe the law of the land again.”
  2. Enforce existing rights that ensure people can get emergency abortion care at hospitals – supports
    1. Harris has fully supported abortion rights, both for emergency situations and not. She was the first president or VP to visit abortion provider
  3. Eliminate the Weldon and Hyde amendments – supports
    1. The Democratic Platform says “We will repeal the Hyde Amendment”

  1. Create new federal laws that ensure your right and access to abortion do not depend on where you live or how much money you make – opposes
    1. In reference to abortion, the Republican Platform says “We believe that the 14th Amendment to the Constitution of the United States guarantees that no person can be denied Life or Liberty without Due Process, and that the States are, therefore, free to pass Laws protecting those Rights.
    2. Ahead of Iowa’s 6-week abortion ban taking effect, he said state abortion bans are “going to work out incredibly well.”
  2. Enforce existing rights that ensure people can get emergency abortion care at hospitals – likely opposes
    1. The Federal Judge who sent a challenge to the Emergency Medical Treatment and Labor Act to the Supreme Court was appointed by Trump.
  3. Eliminate the Weldon and Hyde amendments – opposes
    1. The Trump Administration used the Weldon Amendment to prevent states from enforcing state laws that protect abortion access. For example, on December 16, 2020, the Trump Administration announced it would withhold $200 million in federal Medicaid funds quarterly from California.
    2. The Trump Administration used the Hyde Amendment to expand the Global Gag Rule on abortion.

    1. The Democratic Platform says “Democrats are also working to expand access to birth control, which nine in 10 women have used” and “We will strengthen access to contraception so every woman who needs it is able to get and afford it.”

Reporting from The Guardian says “Trump’s first presidency took an axe to family-planning funding by writing new rules that forced almost one-third of clinics that received grants funding under Title X to leave the program. That left more than 1.5 million people without access to Title X-funded care, including its contraception services.”
  2. Create federal protections for fertility care – likely supports
    1. Donald Trump said that he would “strongly support the availability of IVF.”

Protect schools, teachers, and libraries from censorship and discrimination - supports

    1. The Democratic Platform says “President Biden has also taken action to support LGBTQI+ youth in foster care; and is fighting book bans that censor LGBTQI+ content.”

    1. Trump nominated Amy Coney Barrett to the Supreme Court on September 26, 2020, and confirmed on October 26, 2020. No justice had ever been confirmed after July in an election year.
    2. Alito refused to recuse himself from the Trump immunity case after flying the American flag upside down in 2021 and for flying a Revolutionary War-era flag some associate with Christian Nationalism last year. According to Politico, “The so-called “Appeal to Heaven” flag and the inverted display of the American flag have both been associated with the movement among some Trump supporters to overthrow Joe Biden’s 2020 victory.”
  2. Nominate and confirm judges with a strong record of supporting gender and racial justice issues and who affirmatively declare they will uphold equality, opportunity for all, individual liberty, and the freedom to make personal decisions about our bodies and relationships. – opposes

    1. Trump has supported ending the filibuster when Republicans have power of the Senate in order to push through major policies on the border and taxes.
