NWLC Action Fund Thanks President Biden for Commitment to Gender Justice, Endorses Vice President Kamala Harris as He Exits Race

Washington, DC – After President Joe Biden announced he is withdrawing from the 2024 election and endorsed Vice President Harris as the next Democratic presidential nominee, Fatima Goss Graves, president of the National Women’s Law Center Action Fund, issued the following statement:

“We are grateful for President Biden’s decades-long, historic legacy of service to his country, his leadership, and his commitment to doing everything in his power to ensure that Donald Trump is defeated in November.

“We enthusiastically endorse Vice President Harris as the presidential nominee for the Democratic Party. In this historic moment for our country, we have the opportunity to not only elect a proven, qualified leader who is ready on day one to fight for families and hold those in power accountable — but also to elect the first-ever woman president.

“Vice President Harris’ experience on a range of critical issues makes clear that she is the right leader for this moment. She is one of the Democratic Party’s strongest, most effective voices on protecting abortion access — which is the defining issue of this election. She consistently lays out how the MAGA movement threatens the hard-fought democracy of our country, the safety of communities, and the prosperity and freedom of individuals.

“From focusing on building a stronger economy where everyone has the chance to get ahead — including championing priorities for women and families, such as maternal health and caregiving — to rebuilding our communities and focusing on safety, to expanding fundamental rights for LGBTQIA+ people, Vice President Harris has the proven record, along with the political savvy and the passion, to succeed on the campaign trail and in the highest office. “We can count on Vice President Harris to fight for our democracy, protect women’s rights, and most importantly, beat Donald Trump. We believe that she will become the first woman president of the United States.”
