Washington, DC – Fatima Goss Graves, president of the National Women’s Law Center (NWLC) Action Fund, released a statement following news that Donald Trump’s Department of Justice indicted New York Attorney General Letitia James.
“Donald Trump’s persistent and relentless attacks against Black women in power are sickening. As with all the other legal attacks he’s brought against his political opponents, the evidence against Letitia James is threadbare, to say the least. Trump uses his Justice Department as a weapon to punish his enemies and serve his personal and political interests, which is as authoritarian as it gets. I am confident the courts will see this blatant political attack for what it is, but even so, the precedent this is setting is deeply troubling.”
The NWLC Action Fund is fighting back against this administration’s attacks on powerful women—particularly women of color. Earlier this year, its sister organization, NWLC, spoke out against the indictment of Rep. LaMonica McIver (D–New Jersey), who, like James, was unjustly singled out as punishment for standing up to this administration.
