NWLC Action Fund Endorses Democrats’ Proposal to Fund the Government; Rejects Republicans’ Spending Bill

Washington, DC – The National Women’s Law Center (NWLC) Action Fund released a statement on the dual proposals from Congressional Democrats and Republicans to fund the government.

“After passing legislation that robs women and families of their health care, Republicans are now marching steadily toward a government shutdown by refusing to work with Democrats to prevent yet another spike in health care costs, which will threaten the health coverage of millions,” said Emily Martin, chief program officer at NWLC Action Fund. “Democrats have put forward a commonsense proposal that would lower health care costs, including by repealing the catastrophic Medicaid cuts and making the enhanced ACA premium tax credits permanent. Importantly, their 30-day continuing resolution includes safeguards to prevent Trump from illegally withholding federal funds from programs like Head Start, which resulted in some of these programs closing.

“Instead of taking orders from Donald Trump, Republicans should work with Democrats to pass a spending bill that protects affordable health care for women and families, ends unlawful defunding of critical federal programs, and averts a devastating government shutdown.”
