House GOP Moves to Repeal FACE Act Despite Continued Violence Against Reproductive Health Care Providers

Washington, DC – The National Women’s Law Center (NWLC) Action WASHINGTON, DC (June 10, 2025) – Today, the House Judiciary Committee is holding a markup on a slate of bills, including one from Rep. Chip Roy, R-Texas, that would repeal the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances (FACE) Act. This critical law protects patients and providers from violence, threats, and obstruction at reproductive health facilities.

Katie O’Connor, senior director of federal abortion policy at the National Women’s Law Center Action Fund, issued the following statement in response:

“It is outrageous that House Republicans are trying to erase protections for reproductive health care providers and patients, just weeks after the bombing at a fertility clinic in Palm Springs. Attempting to repeal the FACE Act sends a dangerous signal that violence against patients and providers is acceptable. This move is part of a broader, coordinated campaign we’ve seen ramp up under Trump’s seizure of power in his first 100 days. While the administration deploys military force on peaceful protesters against ICE raids in Los Angeles, it looks the other way when extremists target abortion clinics. The double standard is clear. Republicans are encouraging a climate of fear and intimidation aimed at anyone who challenges their agenda, from immigrants and health care providers to everyday people demanding their basic rights.”
