Washington, DC — Fatima Goss Graves, president of the the National Women’s Law Center Action Fund, released the following statement after the Washington Post reported that the Trump White House constrained the FBI from investigating sexual assault claims against now-Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh.
“The findings reported today by the Washington Post are staggering, appalling, and unsurprisingly prove what we have known all along: Donald Trump and the sycophants in his administration had no interest in justice or accountability. From the beginning, they had no intent of asking the FBI to investigate sexual assault claims into Brett Kavanaugh. Instead, Trump’s sole focus was stacking the Supreme Court with extremist justices who would not only fulfill the long-sought Republican goal of overturning Roe v. Wade, but serve him blindly instead of the 333 million people in this country. “This rapid slide into autocracy should terrify every voter. Make no mistake – if given the chance in November, Trump will complete his quest to be a day-one dictator. This Supreme Court has removed some of the last remaining guardrails that might have checked Trump against some of his worst abuses. A repeat Trump presidency would decimate the soul of this country.”
