Presidents of National Women’s Law Center Action Fund and EMILYs List Set the Stage Ahead of Harris-Trump Debate

Washington, D.C. – Today the presidents of two major women’s organizations held a call to set the stage ahead of the first presidential debate between Vice President Kamala Harris and Donald Trump. Tuesday night’s debate on ABC will undoubtedly include a major focus on reproductive freedom, a top election issue that presents the starkest possible contrast between the two candidates.

Fatima Goss Graves, President of the National Women’s Law Center Action Fund, and Jessica Mackler, President of EMILYs List, elaborated on Vice President Harris’ unmatched strength in talking about the driving issue of abortion, how her long track record of fighting to protect and expand reproductive rights contrasts with Trump’s work to overturn Roe v. Wade and ban abortion, and her efficacy at prosecuting the case against Donald Trump for ripping away people’s freedoms. They also discussed the double standard that Harris has endured when it comes to measuring policy promises and achievements and called on media and debate fact-checkers to measure Trump and Harris with the exact same standards.

Fatima Goss Graves, President, National Women’s Law Center Action Fund:

“From day one, Kamala Harris’ campaign has been laser-focused on the issues that are truly at the center of what women and their families are talking about, and at the center of what the middle class needs. She’s backing it up with clear and impactful policy proposals that would make a real difference in the lives of Americans around this country. Meanwhile, Donald Trump is delivering nonsensical speeches and dodging questions on policy…  Kamala Harris has always been and will always be a fighter for the American people, and the American people will see her fight for all of us at tomorrow night’s debate.”

Jessica Mackler, President, EMILYs List:

“Donald Trump and Republicans can read the polls and that is why he continues to lie to voters and distract from his record. And that’s exactly what we expect to see tomorrow night. More lies, more distractions, more baseless attacks to try to keep the American public from seeing the truth about his extremist anti-abortion agenda… Regardless of what he says, tomorrow night we know where he stands. We have his record, and there is only one candidate who will lead us out and that is: Kamala Harris.”

Graves and Mackler addressed head-on the false notion that Trump has shifted his stance on abortion, and sent a clear message that another Trump presidency will enable a national abortion ban and further decimate reproductive freedom in America no matter what he says on the debate stage on Tuesday night.

Tomorrow night, the nation will be watching one of the most important moments in this election and will see that Kamala Harris has the policy achievements and leadership experience to lead our country forward.
