NWLC Action Fund Statement on the Conviction of Donald Trump

Washington, DC – May 30, 2024 – Today, former President Donald Trump was found guilty on all 34 felony counts of falsifying business records.

In response, Fatima Goss Graves, President and CEO of the National Women’s Law Center Action Fund issued the following statement:

“Accountability has long evaded the former president. Yet, 12 of his peers concluded that he flagrantly broke the law from the very office he seeks to occupy again. No matter what lies he may try to tell about this constitutional process, the guilty verdict stands and further cements his legacy of abuse of power.

As an organization of advocates and attorneys fighting for the rights and power of women and girls, we know that this abuse of power has infected our nation’s institutions, including the Supreme Court. We also know the attacks on women and their families are bigger than one person or one verdict. The former president has run afoul of the law, and sowed deep seeds of doubt about the very legitimacy of the government he wants to run – with violent consequences. This moment is yet another tremendous test for our legal and political systems, which have already been strained since he entered them.

The future of our democracy and our freedoms is at stake this year, and our country deserves better.”
