In May 2025, Republicans in the U.S. House of Representatives passed their version of Donald Trump’s tax and budget reconciliation bill with no Democratic votes, sending the bill to the Senate for consideration. Senate Democrats – and some Senate Republicans – have continued to raise concerns over cuts to programs their constituents rely on, like Medicaid, Medicare, and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). Meanwhile, other Senate Republicans are insisting on deeper cuts to these programs.
While the Senate did make some changes to the House version of Trump’s “Big Beautiful” reconciliation bill, it nevertheless contains many of the same deep cuts to critical programs that families rely on, and in some areas, the cuts are worse. Both the House and Senate versions of Trump’s reconciliation bill robs women, children, and families of vital programs, in order to pay for an unprecedented hand out to the richest.
This fact sheet details some of the impacts of the proposed cuts to women, children, and families, including:
- Tax cuts for billionaires and big corporations
- Proposed cuts to health care
- Attacks on Planned Parenthood and access to reproductive health care
- Attacks on health care for immigrant families
- Harmful cuts to nutrition assistance programs
- Increased higher education costs
- Threats to our democracy
